Manuela Marques has been developing photographic and videographic works in recent years around manifestations of natural phenomena. He develops his photographic and video works based on observations and visual experiments, such as the polyptych Topografia, which he created at the site of the volcanic eruption on the island of Faial (Capelinhos). His work is also constructed from scientific archives (the Records series, for example, or the RAS video installation). He continued this research in France, namely during a residency at the Domaine de Kerguéhennec, focusing on work from samples of soil (Extraction, a kind of geological survey), or captures of light (Ephemerals). Links are woven between the images, as if traversed by these seismic waves whose subterranean vibrations would propagate until they reach the surface of things, up to us. Echoes of nature...
