In the poem Der Ister by Holderlin, the philosopher Martin Heidegger presents the river as a mutable and ambiguous entity, in a perpetual cycle of renewal, which combines places and spaces on arrival at the estuary, a place that transforms everything and directs it towards the sea. The estuary, being a transitional environment, is assumed here as an intermediate territory between the river and the sea, the sky and the earth, the fauna and the flora. This transition is the very process of continuous change from one state (or condition) to another. It is in this middle moment, of passage and anticipation, that these images meet, in an incessant and perpetual flow where something unique bursts forth and distinguishes itself.
