Nó is the creation of a narrative centered on the Amadora crossing, where an improbable rurality and everyday (family) life are inscribed within it. (Dare I say) a space with its own identity. Access to this island-like space/territory is achieved by crossing the Amadora node on foot. Where a group of Cape Verdeans turned that “non-place” (Marc Augé) into a place of subsistence, of conviviality, of stories that are told between (dis)illusions and memories of an absent country. The oldest Cape Verdeans, now retired, came to Portugal between 1961 and 1973. At that time, the Portuguese government promoted the arrival of Cape Verdeans, to fill the lack of labor that was felt in civil construction and public works. In the 1980s most of these immigrants settled in the suburbs of Lisbon. This project is focused on the displacement of people, the appropriation of a place, and issues related to identity and memory.
