"The term "still life" (used in Southern European countries) or "immovable nature" (a term derived from the Dutch "stilleven," also used in England and Germany) appears in Lippmann's images, following a visual culture inherited from painting. Additionally, the choice of this theme is also due to technical limitations related to the emulsion and sensitivity of glass plates at the time. In other words, the object being photographed needed to remain still for an extended period of time to achieve a clear photograph. From an aesthetic perspective, Filipe Alves revisits the theme by seeking compositions of objects that resemble Lippmann's images. However, at the same time, he introduces other objects into these compositions that accentuate the disruption in the image, such as sprayers, hot glue guns, and Tupperware, all made of plastic, derived from petroleum, representing a "still" nature. This irony emphasizes the memorial value attributed to Lippmann's method." Pedro Bandeira & Susana Lourenço Marques, 2022
