General notes: In 1965, an Ié-Ié Music Contest brought together more than 70 bands from across the country, including the colonies (Angola, Mozambique, Guinea, Cape Verde), breaking all records for attendance. In the midst of dictatorship and colonial war, it highlighted the emergence of a new mass phenomenon and a new statistical group: Youth. Youth that discovers in music, cinema and fashion identity factors that conflict with the prevailing social and political model. In an inconceivably sad and oppressed country, it hinted at the possibility of escaping the regimented claustrophobia in which an entire generation lived.
